TIDE TO CYCLES
Emotions profoundly affect how I experience the world. Rhythms of highs and lows operate in a perpetual cycle: I find myself again and again in almost identical states, worrying about where the engine of my emotions is taking me. Tide to Cycles is my attempt to express this pattern, and how it shapes everything around me.
Water is a guiding element in my imagery. I see it as the one thing that connects all humans to each other and to the earth. Growing up near the ocean gave me a deep respect for the power and vastness of this simple element. Living in the desert made me realize our dependence on water and its scarcity.
I am constantly examining how I interact with others, with my world as a whole, and with myself. These interactions, and how I understand them, form the threads that connect all of my work. This is where the work begins, what guides me through the process, and how I come to understand the work in its completion.
